12.05.2003 - In October 2001, in customer in South Africa placed an order with MAN Turbo for two gas turbine - compressor - packages to form the core of a pipeline station close to the TEMANE gas field in Mozambique. A natural gas processing plant is located upstream of the only compressor station existing hitherto along the pipeline, which runs for 865 kilometers as far as South Africa. 10 million Nm³ of natural gas are transported daily. The gas is intended to replace a portion of the synthesis gas obtained in the South African coal gasification installations. Expansion of the existing gas field and of a further field is expected to increase the throughput in the pipeline in the near future. The two MAN Turbo machines are due to be commissioned in mid-2003, with commercial operation anticipated for 2004.
