12.05.2003 - In 1999, MAN Turbo secured an order to supply four turbomachinery sets for an air separation facility in Mexico. The installation is intended to increase the productive capacity of the PEMEX Canterell Offshore oilfield in Southern Mexico by means of nitrogen injection. Following extensive mechanical and thermodynamic tests, the axial compressors were commissioned successfully in 2001.

Axial compressors are ideal for applications in which very large volume flows have to be compressed at a relatively low pressure ratio. The four axial compressors with double interstage cooling included in the order are driven by electric motor. They have a radial end stage and were supplied with an axial intake. Each of the compressors weighs around 180 tonnes.
